Inspirational Thursdays

I think it's pretty obvious now that I'm more of a card maker than scrapbooker. I love hand made cards. So I was super happy when I found 4th of July cards for today's inspiration. I found these cards on the Silhouette blog, but they come from Samantha at http://www.taylorstamped.blogspot.com./ She made the stars using fabric! Sigh...I wish I had a Silhouette. But what's even more awesome is that they are going to some very deserving men and women in our military. So, are you inspired...?

Hoo Are You Tuesdays

NightOwlCrafting

1. Do you decorate for the 4th of July?
No :( I really only decorate for Halloween and Christmas.

2. Do you you buy fireworks for the 4th of July?
Don't do that either. In the county I live in you're not allowed to use them so I can't buy them.

3. How do you celebrate the 4th of July?
There is a park down the street from my house where I can watch fireworks. There always tends to be a cookout to go to as well.

4. Do you have a family member that is serving our country?
Currently no, but I come from a military family. Both my parents retired from the Air Force.

5. Do you dress in red, white, or blue on the fourth?
Not on purpose. If I do, it's definitely not planned.

I know that I'll be using some of these techniques for my wedding day.

My Amazon Picks

Have you noticed a new widget on my sidebar? It's the "My Picks" widget from Amazon. I know there are great scrapbooking resources all over the web, but I like shopping at Amazon as well. I've picked out a few items that I really like and have made them easy to purchase. Just click on the photo and it'll take you right to the item page on Amazon's website.

Today, I wanted to highlight one of my picks. This is the Colorbok Antique Woodcut Scrapbook 12x12 Album Bo by Kit. I'm a big fan of kits. Everything you need to make a simple scrapbook is included. All you pretty much need is adhesive and some photos and you create something beautiful very easily. This kit contains a 12x12 album, over 500 coordinating pieces, and an instruction guide with suggested layouts. I love the colors of this kit. They are perfect for any occasion and can be used for both male and female albums.

A Somber Father's Day

Today is a somber Father's Day for me. It's my first Father's Day without my dad. Usually, I would make my dad a card and spend some quality time with him. It's weird not being able to spend today with him. I know that the coming year will have a lot of first without him and that today is just one of many. But it's still not something I'm use to yet.

My Wedding...So Far

About a month ago, the BF and I got engaged. It's something that I've been wanting for a LONG time. We've been together going on 8 years and I felt it was about that time to take a walk down the aisle. So I'm super excited that it's actually going to happen. But I must confess...I'm so overwhelmed with everything that actually goes into getting married. I purchased one of those planners and there are just so many things you have to think about. Luckily, I have my mom and my sis-in-law (who I text constantly with wedding questions). We've set a date for September 21, 2012. This is my dad's birthday. I feel it's a great way to remember him and honor him since he won't be there in person (but I'm positive he'll be there in spirit). I've been told that I'm way ahead of schedule, but here's what I've accomplished so far...

- Set the date (the most import part).
- Reserve the ceremony location - a church in Washington, D.C.
- Reserve the reception location
- Buy a dress
- Get a wedding planner

That's what I have so far. For all of you folks who have already gotten married, I'm open to any and all advice! If you have idea, tips, or tricks, please feel free to share.

Hoo Are You Tuesdays

1. What is you favorite summertime snack?
Hmmm...I don't really have a summertime snack. I like strawberries. Does that count?

2. Do you tan at all? (tanning bed, outside, spray, etc)
I have lotion but I rarely use it. If I get tan, it's not on purpose, it's just from being outside.

3. What is your favorite activity to do outside?
Playing tennis. I suck at it but me and the fiancee play every once in a while.

4. Do you recycle?
Sure do. We have a blue bin that goes out every Monday to get collected.

5. How hot is it where you live today?
Today was actually a nice day. It was 80 outside but last week we were at 100!

1. How often do you wash your vehicle?
This is embarrassing but I can't even remember the last time I washed my car. It's the BF's job to keep it clean but it probably hasn't been washed since March.
2. When riding in a car with someone who usually drives, them or you?
It depends on the car. If it's the BF's car, then he drives, if it's my car, then I drive.

3. How many states have you traveled to or through?
I traveled through all of them on the east coast that are beneath Maryland. I've also traveled through Arizona, Nevada, and California.

4. What kind of music do you listen to the most?
I'm mostly a hip hop and r&b type girl. I LOVE Beyonce.

5. Do you prefer the window down or air conditioning?
Air conditioning. I can deal with the window down if it's not to hot but I can't take the humidity we have in the summer so the windows come up and then air cuts on.

Cards of the Month - May

I'm actually ahead of the card making this month! The theme for this month's kit was Father's Day/manly cards. All of these cards have unique folds to them which I think makes them kind of cool. This is my second favorite kit so far, behind last month's kit. What do you guys think?
