Layouts

In an effort to scrap faster, I decided to try a new approach to my digital scrapbooking. Normally when I make a scrapbook for a client, I do one page at a time until it's complete. That means choosing background papers, elements, pictures, and finishing touches. When I do it this way, it normally takes me a loooonnnnggg time. I've been working on one scrapbook for almost a year doing it this way. I finally figured out that this is just NOT working. So for the baby album I'm creating for a client of mine, I decided to try a different approach. I got the idea after purchasing "Scrapbook Page Maps: Sketches for Creative Layouts" by Becky Fleck. She also has a great website with new sketches every month.

After browsing through the book and punching out the handy dandy reference cards that come with it, I decided to try a new approach to my scrapbook. Instead of finishing one page at a time, I've decided to just do the layout with simple embellishments first. Once I finish all of the pages, I will go back and add the pictures, a few more digital embellishments, and finally some physical paper embellishments. These are some of the layouts I've done so far. They are all double layouts, meaning two 12x12 pages. I purchased all of the elements from ScrapGirls

By scraping this way, I've been able to complete about one layout an hour which is WAY faster than I've done in the past. I scrap for about an hour a day so at this rate, I should be able to finish this album by the end of the week. I will definitely continuing using this technique going forward.

Ocean City

So I've been gone for the weekend, but I have a good reason. Me and the BF (boyfriend) took a mini vacay to Ocean City, MD for the weekend. He had a couple of days off and we wanted to get away for awhile. I'll definetly be making a mini album soon because this vacation really inspired me. For example, I absolutely LOVE this picture.

I also love this one. I know it's a little hard to see but the full moon and the ocean were very beautiful...I just need to learn how to take better pictures!

I had a great time and will be making that album soon...if only I had more time! I'll post the pics of the album soon!

"Me: The Abridged Version"

Big Picture Scrapbooking

I recently signed up for Big Picture Scrapbooking. I heard about it on a forum that I frequent and decided to check it out. I've actually signed up for some of the free classes and so far I like it. It has definetly given me some inspiration. What I'm most excited about though is a workshop that I'll be signing up for. The workshop is called "Me: The Abridged Version" (hence the blog post title) and I'm can't wait to get started on it...even though it starts in Sept! The main premise of the workshop is that as scrapbookers (or lovers of them) we tend to scrap about things outside of ourselves...our friends, family, places we love, etc. Through 4 weeks in this workshop, I'll be creating an A-Z scrapbook all about ME!! I think it's the coolest idea to actually make a scrapbook reflective about myself as opposed to the things around me. Can you tell I'm super excited. If your interested, I suggest you sign up too. I plan on posting the pages I make. I can't wait!

Baby Books

So I've been working on this baby album for a client of mine and I just finished the album cover. For this album, I used American Crafts 8x8 Modern Album in Chestnut, a BoBunny Peacock Lane rub-on, and some flowers from Petaloo (Fairy Wonderland & Winter Wonderland). The ribbon, papers, and tag came from my local scrapbook store. I sometimes find it a little difficult to design baby albums since I'm not a mother myself. Most of the time, I go off of colors or themes that my client has expressed. In this case, purple was the color choice. Let me know what you think.

2011 MemoryWorks Retreat

So I know I'm a little late but I just found out the MemoryWorks has posted the dates for their 2011 Scrapbooking Retreat. The retreat is taking place June 23-25 in Layon, UT. I've never been to a retreat before but I've heard from all the other consultants that this is a must to attend! I'm hoping I'll be able to make it. From my understanding, you can receive tons of free products and there are classes and crops and so much more. Visit the LadyBug Creations blog for more info. She's been to past retreats and has more insight.
